Persepolis is one of those restaurants I have walked past many times in my neighborhood, but had never dined, until last night. Originally located next to Zucchero e Pomodori, it also lost its original location to new luxury apartments, but reopened only a few blocks away. One would think this could be viewed as a positive testament to the quality, and in this case, one would be wrong.

The rice sides were actually quite good, however the same can not be said for the meat portions of the entries. The chicken was dry and lacked any true flavor, and the lamb and ground sirloin were just as bland. We had hoped to try the sauted carrots and rains, but our waiter forgot to submit it with the order. He was nice enough to bring us some cucumbers and yogurt, but that did nothing to help accentuate the meal. Perhaps the only saving grace were the additional seasons made available in a ‘red pepper’ shaker.

Either we decided to dine out on an off night, or these people just don’t know what good food is.

If you’re looking to relive a college night of drinking and the food that goes along with it, then Brother Jimmy’s BBQ is for you. If, however, you are looking for quality barbeque, you’d best look elsewhere.

All meat items were chewy, requiring at least twenty chomps. Fahd says that it generally makes sense to chew a minimum of thirty two times, however we do not believe this should be required to force protein down your throat.

All rib options, a burger, and the a bbq dinner platter (minus the chicken/rib combo) were tried. If you’re looking for a safe bet, stick with the cole slaw, and definitely stay away from the Fire Fries, they were way too salty.

Desserts are obviously farmed out, no baking is occurring on the premisis. The pecan pie is good in comparison to last week’s disgustingly dry Mississippi Mud Cake. And who the hell has heard of a Mississippi Mud Cake?! It’s Missisppi Mud Pie, with the emphasis on pie.

Location: 1431 2nd Ave - Upper East Side

The true test of any Italian restaurant is its chicken parmigiana, and along with all the other entires, Zucchero e Pomodori comes up short - the bread was the best part of the meal.

This is quite suprising given the number of positive reviews, and the fact that it survived and relocated after loosing its original location to new luxury apartments.

If you’re looking for mediocre that won’t break the bank and your date is no food connoisseur, then this place is for you.

Khan Scale Rating: Neutral

* Disclaimer: Unless someone else is buying, I will not be dining here again. If I want mediocre Italian, I think it’s more fun to head down to Little Italy.
